I hope everyone had a good start to the school year last week! As we all know too well, weather can be bi-polar in Ohio! The high school kids leave early enough they may need a sweatshirt but by the time FCMB rehearsal rolls around after school, it could be in the mid 80s! So please reminder your marcher to stay hydrated through the day and have appropriate attire on for the conditions. A quick snack as they head to rehearsal is always good too if their lunch is early in the day!
Pay to Participate is due this week
Please remember that the Pay to Participate fee applies to students who are members of the FCMB. This $200 fee was due last Friday, August 17th. It is district policy that students are not permitted to perform with the band if the fee is not paid. The directors, nor Music Mentors, can take this fee for you. It is listed in the parent portal and paid directly through there. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Mr. Poremba at [email protected]
It’s Tag Day Time!
Our annual Tag Day is Saturday, September 8th, and the major planning for this event is underway! The link to print the form will be included here but your student should also be coming home with one. Please complete this form ASAP and turn it in. This event is MANDATORY for all High School Band members.
We need LOTS of drivers for this event. If you can volunteer just a couple hours on that Saturday morning as a driver to help us transport 400+ students around the city of Mentor, we would truly appreciate it! Please remember all our volunteers must be fingerprinted at the board office. It only takes a few minutes.

Tuesday, August 21st: Rehearsal 2:35 – 5 pm
Thursday, August 23rd: Rehearsal 2:35 – 4:30 pm
Friday, August 24th: 1st Home Game!! MHS vs St. Ed’s! Call time is 4:30 pm. Parents keep in touch with your marcher to find out a good time to pick them up after the game.
Saturday, August 25th: Cityfest Parade, call time is 8:30 am! Summer uniform
Volunteers and Fingerprinting
Fingerprinting is required of ALL our volunteers. Parents and Adults that plan on volunteering in any capacity: you will be required to go to the Board of Education before you can volunteer. The summer hours will be 7:30 AM – 4 PM. Please have your drivers license with you and your Social Security number. When you arrive you will let them know which schools you have children in and also mention the FCMB. It only takes a couple minutes.
Need 50/50 Sellers!
We are looking for some motivated, energetic parents to sell 50/50 tickets at our home football games! This is a great way to meet new people, experience life in the stands, and support Music Mentors! You get into the game for free, you will be able to see your marcher perform halftime as we make sure we stop to watch and then you are free to enjoy the rest of the game! This week, attendance will be huge!!! We need lots of sellers to continue to be able to provide all the things all our band programs need!
This is one of our main fundraisers. Music Mentors earns the proceeds from 50/50 at the home football games. Our other main fundraiser is Tag Day which is addressed above. The football concessions is Cardinal Parents main fundraiser for athletics. Both groups appreciate your support of our musicians and our athletes.
