What a Great First Performance!

WOW!! What a GREAT 1st performance weekend! Lots of kudos sent our way for the halftime show and what a beautiful morning we had for a parade! The FCMB did a wonderful job and it’s obvious what a hard working group of students we have!! It will be so exciting to see how much they grow over then next couple of months!
There’s lots of important information in the newsletter! As always, if you have any questions, don’t hesitate to ask! Have a great week!

It’s Tag Day Time!

Our annual Tag Day is Saturday, September 8th, and the major planning for this event is underway! The link to print the form will be included here but your student should have come home with one and you should have received one in an Infinite Campus e-mail from Mr. Poremba. Yes – this event is THAT important! Please complete this form ASAP and turn it in as it is due TOMORROW, August 27th. This event is MANDATORY for all High School Band members.

We need LOTS of drivers for this event. If you can volunteer just a couple hours on that Saturday morning as a driver to help us transport 400+ students around the city of Mentor, we would truly appreciate it! Please remember all our volunteers must be fingerprinted at the board office. It only takes a few minutes. You’ll be asked to arrive at the school around 7:45 am to register, enjoy a cup of coffee and a donut courtesy of Music Mentors, while you wait for your assignment instructions. Then we will get your students assigned to you and then off you go to your routes, around 9:15 am. Once you are done canvassing the route for donations, you bring the canister back to the school and you are done!
Another thing we are in need of is large, clean, plastic, coffee canisters WITH the lids. If you have any of these, please send them to school on Saturday, September 1st with your marcher!
If you have any questions, please contact Amy Freeman at [email protected]

A Note from Mr. Poremba

Hello FCMB families –
I hope your marchers school year is off to a great start! I am so pleased with the progress the band has made from our first days back in July to our first performance at this past Friday’s first home game. I was so proud of the kids and their focus on the field in front of a huge crowd. The attitude of the band in great and I am looking forward to their continued progress throughout the season.
As many of you know the band has been accepted to perform at the Buckeye Classic Marching Band Invitational at OSU on Saturday September 29. The band also has an away football game at Medina on Friday September 28. Due to the travel times and logistics of these two performances we have to decided to do an overnight stay in Columbus. After the football game, the band will travel to a hotel in the Columbus area where we will stay for the night. Breakfast at the hotel will be provided for the band and we will travel to the Polaris Mall in Columbus for the kids to have some free time there before we proceed to OSU for the marching band competition. We are still working on the details and an exact itinerary for the trip. We are working to keep the cost under $50 per student including the breakfast at the hotel. The kids would be responsible for anything they purchase foodwise at the mall or the marching band competition. This is a great performance opportunity for our kids and a great honor to be invited to this show. This will also be a long week of band for our kids and we want them to be rested and focused for the competition.
Please stay tuned to the Music Mentors website and weekly emails for more details and if you have any questions please don’t hesitate to ask.
