Message from Mr. Poremba - July 27
Hello Band Families!

It was so great to see the kids today and have them actually doing band! As we reflect on the first day here are a few things for us to keep in mind.

It is so important that we keep practicing social distancing before during and after our rehearsals. Students cannot let their guards down as we start to get back to doing what we enjoy. Students must maintain their distance from one another when not in their assigned groups and on the way to and from their designated areas. We had too many students not paying attention to this today. The last thing that we want is for our activity to be shut down. The staff will keep reminding the students of this but ultimately the responsibility lies with the students. We want to make this experience enjoyable for all but we need to follow the guidelines that are in place for the safety of everyone.

As we move forward, tomorrow we are going to have the students report directly to their assigned areas and their groups. Wellness checks will be done first thing as the band members arrive. There will be no check in tables set up. There will be a staff member at the flagpole to assist students that do not know where to report. Parents may also drop students near their assigned areas. Please remember to HYDRATE and EAT BREAKFAST as we had a few kids not prepared for today’s heat.

We have set up a remind for the band as well please follow the link below to subscribe. We will be using this in addition to the message platforms that are already in place.

Season Update - July 21 - OMEA Marching Band Announcement

Hello Band Families,

Late last night OMEA sent out a statement that they will not be sanctioning any competitions this fall, canceling the 2020 competition season. This decision was not made lightly and takes into consideration the safety of all of the students, staff, adjudicators, volunteers, and spectators that would attend these events.

While the Fighting Cardinal Marching Band won't have a competitive season, we are still excited to have our students back participating in marching band with their peers in an activity that they enjoy. We know there will be disappointment, but there are also opportunities in these situations.

As we told our leadership team when we met yesterday, we know this season will look different, but we still intend to provide a meaningful experience for all involved. We are still a band, at the core of what we do is making music with others, and we will still March Proud.

We are looking forward to seeing everyone next Monday for the start of our season!

COVID-19 Waiver

Mentor Schools requires all participants in extracurricular activities to sign and return a waiver.  Please print, sign, and return this waiver on or before the first day of practice.

Season Update - July 10

Hello Band Families!

I hope this message finds you well and keeping cool during these hot summer days! This message contains important information about our return to activity for the Fighting Cardinal Marching Band. We are looking forward to getting our band members safely back to marching band activities. As stated before we will be working through phases of activity similar to athletics. Things will look different than they have in the past, but again we want to return safely and adhere to the guidelines that have been set.

We will begin rehearsals on JULY 27 - there will be no rehearsals the week of July 20. The band will be split up into 2 shifts during the first 2 phases of our rehearsal schedule and those shifts will be broken up into groups by section. Please review and follow the schedule below and if you have any questions please let me know. We will also be having parent/student meetings on Zoom prior to the start of our rehearsals to go over all of the guidelines. There will be 2 options for the meetings and all band members are required to attend one of the meetings. A link for these meetings will also be available on the Music Mentors website.
