Music Mentors – Week of September 15th

What a crazy night Friday was! However, we are so glad the halftime performance with our 8th graders from Shore and Memorial was able to be squeezed in before Mother Nature had other plans! Thank you to everyone for helping us get our students and our middle school students back to the school building safely! Here’s what going on in band this week!

Disney Fundraiser Pick up, September 19th
Pick up for your fundraiser items is September 19th from 2:30 – 5:00 pm. Please mark this date on your calendars as ALL ORDERS must be picked up during this time as we do not have anywhere to store the orders. Money is due September 23rd but can be turned in earlier if you have it. Please try to turn in one check for your order and it should be made payable to Music Mentors.

September 20th, MHS @ Elyria
Friday’s game is an away game, and call time is at 3:00 pm. This is a tight turnaround time especially for those that do not drive, or those underclassman who are at the school till 2:30 pm. Therefore, we will be offering a box lunch option for purchase from Great Harvest. Mr. Poremba will have order forms tomorrow at band. ALL ORDER FORMS AND PAYMENT ARE DUE BACK BY WEDNESDAY DURING BAND. These lunches will be picked up and ready for the students at school at 3 pm. As always, students are welcome to pack something for themselves or if you would like to bring them something, that is an option as well. Students should also bring concession money for during 3rd quarter as well.

Avon Lake Competition, Sat., September 21st at 7:45 pm, call time 2 pm
Our first competition is this Saturday at Avon Lake High School. Call time for the students will be 2 pm. They will do a quick practice and then we will head off to Avon Lake. Students should eat before they come and bring money for concessions or pack something to eat when they are there.
For those new to band competitions, here are some hints to help you along the way. There is a small admission fee to get in, so make sure you have cash with you. Parking can be crazy at these events, so you want to give yourself plenty of time to park, get through the admission lines and time to find a seat. Ideally, you would want to be in a seat no later than 30 minutes prior to our performance time. Keep in mind that there will be ushers that will not allow any movement in and out of the stands while a band is performing. Ratings are given at the end of the competition. Any band receiving a rating of “I-Superior” qualifies for State Competition.

LCMEA Marching Band Festival, Sept. 25th
The Lake County Marching Band Festival is right around the corner. As usual, we always offer a t-shirt for purchase. These are OPTIONAL. The FCMB performs at the beginning and the end of the festival so they are busy the whole time. Therefore, we offer the option to preorder a shirt so they don’t have to worry about a family member going through the line to get one. They will not be able to go to the shirt table to purchase one the night of the event. The rest of the shirts are first come, first serve at the table. If you would like to pre-order a shirt, please have your marcher turn in the order by Saturday, Sept. 21st with payment.

50/50 Raffle Clarification from Sept. 13th game
Due to the severe weather that delayed our game this past Friday, the 50/50 raffle number was unable to be called out before the bleachers and stadium were cleared. An attempt was made to call out to those on sight once we were given the ok to do so and no winner came forth. Given the unprecedented situation of extreme weather, loss of power and PA system, and the game cancellation, Music Mentors had decided Friday night that if no one came forth on site with the called ticket, an alternative plan would be made for the winnings. Music Mentors would not keep the winnings (despite our bylaws/standing rules stating that the winner must be present to win).

There are many scenarios to deal with this situation, and we do understand that not everyone will agree or be satisfied with our solution.

At the MHS Homecoming Game on September 27th, there will be two drawings- the first being the usual 50/50 from that evening’s sales. The second drawing will be for the winnings from the cancelled game, and we will draw from the same pool of tickets sold at the homecoming game.

Most importantly, we want you to know that Music Mentors is not keeping the winnings from the September 13th game, and we feel holding a second drawing at the homecoming game is the best option. That drawing will be for $1,317.

If you have any questions, you can reach out to myself, Angie Arslanian at [email protected] or Debbie Dittebrand at [email protected].
